Check the selected page before buying more content
When several URLs describe the same service, adding another page may make the problem harder to understand. Start by identifying which URL you want customers to use and which version Google has selected. An AI helper can organize the comparison, but it should not delete pages or change redirects based on a search screenshot.
Separate your preference from Google's choice
A canonical URL is the representative version of duplicate or very similar content. Google treats canonical declarations as signals rather than an unconditional instruction. Use Search Console's URL Inspection information to check the Google-selected canonical. A difference is a reason to investigate the pages and technical settings, not proof that your business has received a penalty.

Build a small URL comparison sheet
For a fictional repair company, the same service is available at a main URL and an old campaign URL. Record both addresses, their purpose, response status, declared canonical, main content and important internal links. Add the inspection date and Google's selected URL where available. The output is a short evidence table, with unknown fields left unknown. Do not ask an assistant to infer Search Console data from public search results.
Choose consolidation or genuinely different content
If the two pages serve the same purpose, the website owner can choose a preferred version and have a developer align canonical signals, redirects where appropriate and internal links. Google recommends linking internally to the canonical URL and avoiding conflicting canonical signals. If the pages answer different customer needs, first verify that the difference is substantive. Changing a city name or a heading does not create a useful new service page.

Review the change and recheck the important journey
Keep the original URL table and an approved change list. Test the service page, enquiry link and any campaign destination after deployment. Record what changed and when; request indexing for an important corrected page where appropriate, then allow time for reassessment. Google may continue selecting another URL, and neither a canonical tag nor a content rewrite guarantees a ranking. Avoid repeated changes before you have evidence of their effect.
Measure a cleaner workflow, not a promised ranking
As an illustrative estimate, checking ten URL pairs manually for six minutes each takes an hour. A prepared comparison that needs three minutes of review per pair releases 30 minutes of staff capacity. Allow for access setup, developer work and ongoing checks before deciding whether automation is worthwhile. Exovara can help prepare the evidence and coordinate approved fixes so your team spends less time guessing which page needs attention.
