Start with the enabled settings
If your advertising account changes between reviews, check whether recommendations are being applied automatically. Google Ads lets you opt into individual recommendation categories or bundles. Account settings shows subscriptions, and the auto-apply History tab records activity. A recommendation appearing in the account and permission for it to apply automatically are different things. Start with a record of what is actually enabled.

Make the review about your business
Imagine a small service company that accepts residential work but has stopped taking commercial contracts. Its owner wants an assistant to reduce repetitive account checks. Before approving any recommendation category, write down current services, service boundaries and the enquiries the team can handle. This is a proposed review workflow, not a claim that a particular recommendation would expand this fictional company's targeting.
Build a small change register
For each enabled category, record its purpose, the reviewer, approval date and next check. Use History to inspect recent applications and change history to check who enrolled the account. Compare the actual settings with your register. The output should be a short list of retained categories, categories to investigate and any changes the owner wants disabled. Keep account identifiers and screenshots in private records.
Separate budget approval from other changes
Google says its Maintain Your Ads recommendation set does not increase or change budgets. That does not make every resulting change a fit for your business. Keep a separate spending approval process and assess whether enquiries remain relevant. An unchanged budget is not evidence that the same customers are being reached or that lead quality improved. Avoid judging success from an account score alone.

Give exceptions to a person
Have the account owner or authorised manager review an unexpected change before adjusting it. Google supports disabling individual auto-apply recommendations. After changing a subscription, inspect the current campaign settings rather than assuming earlier changes have been reversed. An assistant can assemble a weekly exception report with dates and evidence; it should not invent an explanation when the history is unclear. Begin with the native account controls before buying another integration.
Measure review time and enquiry quality
As an illustrative calculation, four monthly checks taking 30 minutes each use two hours. If a clear register reduces each check to 15 minutes, it releases one hour of staff capacity. Compare that with setup and ongoing review costs. It is not proof of lower advertising spend or additional sales. Exovara can help structure the evidence so the owner can make an informed decision about automation.
