An assistant helps you work through a task
You provide a prompt, notes, or a document. The assistant produces a draft, a summary, or a comparison. It is useful when the work benefits from conversation and your judgment remains central.
Automation connects repeatable steps
A trigger starts a defined sequence: a form arrives, a record is created, and a task is assigned. Automation can be entirely rule-based. Adding AI helps interpret less structured input, but it also creates a need for validation.
Use both where they fit
An inquiry form can trigger a workflow, AI can draft a summary, and an employee can approve the handoff. Deterministic rules handle addresses and required fields; AI helps with interpretation.
Buy a scope, not a personality
Ask which tools are connected, what data is accessed, how errors are handled, and what ongoing subscriptions you will need. Calling something an agent does not tell you whether it can safely do the job.
