Treat recovery as part of the service
A useful automation needs a plan for disconnected accounts, unavailable systems and incomplete records. The question is not whether it can run once; it is whether the team knows what to do when it stops. Include that operating plan in the implementation scope.
Record the last confirmed step
Give each run a reference and track which actions completed. A timeout after creating a record may leave uncertainty about whether the destination accepted it. Check the destination before repeating a write, especially for invoices, bookings or customer messages.
Make alerts actionable
An alert should identify the affected record, last known status and responsible person without exposing unnecessary private content. Distinguish a temporary delay from a task requiring a business decision. Set a limited retry policy and a clear manual route.
Test recovery deliberately
Disconnect a test account, submit an incomplete record and simulate a repeated event in a safe environment. Confirm that staff can find the failed item and finish it manually. Check what logs and replay features your integration product actually provides.

Include support in the business case
Measure failed runs, recovery time and duplicate actions alongside successful processing. Agree who monitors the system and what support is included. A cheap setup that creates unowned failures can cost more than a narrower process with a dependable handover.
