Can AI make a business logo you can edit and use in print?

Check the editable source, lettering and supplier-approved export before accepting an AI-assisted logo. A preview image is only one part of the handover.

Ask for a usable handover as well as a design

AI can help explore logo ideas, and some tools can generate vector artwork that a designer can refine. Accepting a logo also means knowing how you will edit it and supply it to your website or print provider. Begin with your actual uses, such as a website header, invoice and vehicle decal. Ask for one small handover demonstration before buying a full brand package. A pleasing preview does not establish that the delivered files suit those jobs.

Write a three-use brief with a named approver

Record the exact business name, approved wording, preferred colours, smallest intended display and intended print use. Tell the designer which details can change and which must remain. Request the editable master, the agreed web export and the print supplier's requested file, plus a short note identifying each. Confirm account access, fonts, linked assets, charges and permitted use before accepting the scope. Design approval and any rights or brand-clearance review are separate decisions; this file exercise does not settle ownership or exclusivity.

Use a change, size and handover check

Imagine a fictional business whose logo package looks correct in its preview. For the change check, ask the designer to alter one colour and correct one letter in a copy of the master, then reopen the saved result. If lettering has been converted to shapes, ask how a future name change will be handled. For the size check, place the approved mark at the proposed header and invoice sizes and inspect whether its name and small details remain readable. For the handover check, have the intended print supplier open the proposed file and identify any production changes needed. These are proposed checks, not logo files or print proofs we created or tested.

Check the actual artwork behind the file extension

Adobe documents Illustrator's Text to Vector Graphic options, including an icon mode for logo concepts. Its saving guidance distinguishes editable working files from exports and explains that SVG files can contain raster images. It also documents converting lettering to vector paths, which changes how that lettering can be edited. Ask the provider to demonstrate the actual objects, text and linked assets in your delivered copy. A file ending in SVG or PDF is not, by itself, proof that every element is an editable vector or that the file meets a printer's needs.

Keep the master and approved exports connected

Save the accepted design, editable source and exports under one version reference. Keep the exact business-name spelling and agreed colours in the handover note. Have the website editor check the web copy against its real background, and have the print supplier confirm dimensions, colours, fine details and any production settings. Different uses may need different prepared files. Review a supplier proof before production. If a change is approved later, update the master and the affected exports together so an old invoice or sign file does not become the next source.

Price the complete result you can maintain

Ask what the fee includes: concept options, human refinement, name and colour corrections, editable files, export preparation, supplier questions and later revisions. Confirm which features your intended account can use and what software, generation or export charges apply. Compare the full effort and cost with refining an existing approved mark or commissioning a conventional design. Many generated options do not measure usable value. Exovara can help scope AI-assisted design and website handover around the files and review your business actually needs, with publication and production approval kept with you.
