Can AI help write a job ad that describes the actual work?

Start an AI-assisted job ad with approved duties and working conditions. Use a duty-to-wording check before publishing or buying a hiring tool.

Start with the job you need someone to do

Yes. AI can help organize an approved description of the work into a readable first draft. It cannot settle an undefined role, approve pay or decide which qualifications your business needs. Start with one vacancy and a manager who can confirm the facts. A draft in your existing document tool may be enough; a recruitment system is a separate purchase with a different purpose.

Make a duty-to-wording sheet before asking for a draft

For each important task, record what the person does, how often, what authority they have, what support is available and the approved wording. Add confirmed hours, work location, compensation, application route and reviewer. Mark unresolved items as questions for the manager. Use information about the role, rather than private details about the previous employee or applicants. Ask the helper to leave gaps visible and attach each proposed responsibility to a supplied task.

Check three ways an ordinary task can become a different job

Consider a fictional office assistant. The manager says the person forwards invoice questions to the bookkeeper twice a week; a draft that makes them responsible for accounts receivable adds authority. The manager says the person updates an appointment list using an approved script; a draft requiring them to negotiate schedules independently changes the work. The manager says occasional cover may be discussed, but no arrangement is approved; a draft promising flexible hours invents a condition. Put each mismatch beside its original task and return it for correction. These are written review examples, not a hiring trial or evidence about real applicants.

Use the tool you already have, with a human review step

Microsoft documents Copilot in Word drafting from notes or reference material and letting the user refine or discard the result. Access depends on eligible subscriptions and the particular app and account. Ask for a short draft with a separate list of unsupported additions. Check duties, required skills and working conditions line by line against the sheet. Keep genuine requirements distinct from preferences, with the responsible manager deciding both. Do not let a polished draft quietly add credentials, benefits or promises.

Check publication requirements for the actual employer

For Ontario employers, a job-ad draft also needs a current publication review. The provincial guide describes requirements for certain public postings from January 1, 2026, with an exemption for employers below 25 employees on the posting day and further definitions and exceptions. It covers compensation and vacancy statements, Canadian-experience restrictions, and disclosure when AI is used to screen, assess or select applicants. Have the responsible hiring person check applicability and the full requirements before posting. Record how applicants will actually be handled; drafting help alone does not describe that process or establish compliance.

Buy a bounded drafting process before a hiring platform

A useful first assignment produces the approved duty sheet, a draft ad, a visible gap list and a named publication reviewer. Keep screening, ranking applicants and sending decisions outside this writing exercise. Compare the total preparation, factual review and correction time with editing a maintained template manually. Include any setup fee, software subscription and future updates. A quicker draft creates staff capacity only if checking it does not consume the time saved; it does not prove better hires or lower payroll.
