A useful starting point
A gap in an exported invoice sequence is a question for your finance team, not proof of a missing sale. Prepare a reconciliation list that preserves voids, drafts and separate numbering series. Do not create replacement invoices automatically.
A worked example
For a hypothetical sequence 101, 102 and 104, flag 103 with the export date and series. Check whether it was voided or belongs to another filtered view. Keep credit-note numbering separate. The reviewer records the explanation and supporting reference.
Implementation and review
Import the complete intended period and preserve invoice numbers as identifiers. Review inferred CSV types, especially prefixes and leading zeros. Test multiple locations using separate sequences and an export missing its final page. Your bookkeeper determines the appropriate record treatment.
Import tools can infer data types; review the detected types before accepting a migration. Microsoft: Power Query imports
Measure the improvement
Measure investigation and reconciliation time rather than the number of gaps found. Include export validation and review effort. Compare recovered capacity with setup and ongoing reporting costs. No financial conclusion should be drawn from an incomplete export.
