Ask to see the editing process before buying
You may be able to update the site yourself, but AI-built does not describe the editing experience you will receive. Ask the provider to demonstrate a routine change using the account your business will actually use. A visual editor, an AI conversation and a developer-maintained site can involve different steps. Decide which changes you want to make independently and which you would prefer to request from someone else. The useful promise is a demonstrated way to keep your information current.
Choose three edits that match ordinary business work
In a trial site or approved preview, try rewriting one service paragraph, replacing one project photograph and updating contact information. For each, make a change record with the item, places it appears, person allowed to edit, approval needed and route to publication. A photograph also needs suitable use permission and accompanying text. For contact information, ask where the visible phone number and call-button destination are maintained. Do not assume changing one automatically changes the other or updates every page.
Repeat the demonstration with your own access
Have the provider step back while you open the correct site, find the paragraph and prepare the change. Confirm that your access permits the actions you expect without sharing the provider's login. Note where you need help finding a setting, understanding a preview or choosing what to publish. Repeat the photograph and contact-information checks. Record a task as staff-editable, editable after training or requiring support based on what happens. This proposed three-edit exercise is more useful than a general statement that the site is easy to manage.
Check the difference between saving and going live
Wix, for example, says its Wix Editor can edit a published site and distinguishes saving, previewing and publishing changes. Its getting-started guidance also addresses the mobile layout. These are product-specific features, not a guarantee about every AI site or editor edition. In a fictional outcome, a revised paragraph appears in the editor preview while the public page still shows the earlier wording. That outcome calls for checking the publication step. Ask the provider to demonstrate the equivalent stages and recovery route in your actual setup.
Primary guidance checked October 20, 2026. Supports the named Wix Editor capabilities; account, permissions and the actual editor edition must be confirmed. No universal editing, export or ownership promise is made. Wix: editing after publication and checking the mobile layout
Supports the publication distinction. The change record, three-edit rehearsal and preview-versus-public example are original proposed buying checks, not results from a site we tested. Wix: saving, previewing and publishing are separate stages
Inspect the result where visitors will see it
After an authorized trial publication, open the public URL in a separate visitor session and check both a phone-sized view and a wider screen. Confirm the right text, photograph and contact destination, and that nearby navigation still works. Use the change record to check every affected location. Keep the previous approved material and ask how to restore it if needed. A preview, successful save or confirmation banner is not a substitute for looking at the destination. No live change is needed merely to discuss the proposed exercise.

Put editing and support into the quote
Ask for access, a short job aid, a guided practice session and clear responsibility for changes you cannot make. Include editor or hosting subscriptions, any AI usage charges, staff checking time and the cost of later support. Agree how layout changes, new features and unfamiliar errors will be handled. Being able to edit wording does not establish that you can rebuild every function or move the whole site elsewhere. The related supplier-handover guide covers broader continuity questions.
